SINGER-SONGWRITER Bill Knight will be on in the Old Mill Theatre, Paarl, on Sunday night at 19:30.

Knight layers his authentic contemporary Cape-folk music with poetic lyrics of depth and intensity.

Written in a characteristic Bredie of English and Kombuistaal, they provide a personal but universal insight into the not so ordinary lives of everyday people, drawing strongly on Myth, Legend and Folklore.

“It is one thing to be clever and oblique and another thing entirely to create such emotionally honest visceral songs that become easily anthemic to the everyman and never sound formulaic or contrived.

“He is a true storyteller. He has a unique, distinct sound that is a great canvas on which to paint his words. That he is not yet rich and famous is unfathomable.” Glenn Wilken.

Bill Knight was born in Lobatse, Botswana, in September 1957, and moved to Cape Town in early 1966.

In 1982, Bill joined the Barleycorn Music Club, a non-profit NGO dedicated to the nurturing of emerging Local Musical talent.

Bill published his first Album, “SkollieRock” in 1994, followed by “Through your Window” in 1996, and “After the Rinderpest” in 2002.

1998 saw the genesis of “Harbour”, the Kalk Bay Musical Play, scripted by Seymour Howe, and based on a selection of Bill’s songs.
Featuring local actor David Muller as “Tommy”, an engaging Kalk Bay fisherman, this funny and poignant play continues to delight audiences in and around Cape Town.

Bill’s most recent album, “Back against the Wall” was released in December.

From the joyous opening track, “Melting Pot”, via the irreverent “Shoot the Janitor”, and the heart-rending “My Father’s Eyes” to the contemplative closing track, “Back against the Wall”, Bill’s new album is a collection of finely crafted songs for the discerning listener.

Tickets for Sunday’s concert are available at PRint Right and at the door.
