Local is 'lekker'
2005-05-12
THE Cape Winelands District Municipality has launched a new marketing campaign emphasising the uniqueness of the area for tourists. Called “Homegrown in the Cape Winelands”, it features a diverse range of tourism experiences, says Karen Harrison, Executive Director: Community and Developmental Services for Cape Winelands District Municipality.
It emphasises the diversity of regional products by local content, sense of place, culture and traditions.
The campaign focuses on six broad experiences: Indulgence of Body & Soul; Food & Wine Taste Sensations; Adrenalin Adventure; Celebrating Democracy & the Freedom of our People; a Journey into History & Culture; and Freshest Local Produce; ‘Real life’ Ambassadors chosen by the different tourism bureaus in the region will speak about why the Cape Winelands is such a ‘lekker’ local destination. Marketing material will feature a short quote from each person.
As part of the campaign they will be hosting a series of BEE workshops in the region to encourage partnerships between emerging and mainstream tourism businesses.
Thompsons Tours have agreed to partner the campaign and will assist in designing suitable packages including special offers. In addition, Thompsons have agreed to conduct a series of three information sessions for members of the Cape Wineland’s tourism bureaus, where they will explain the tourism sales channel, their marketing networks and the various rate structures.
