Be careful

NEXT week, from Monday to Saturday is National STI/Condom Week.
The primary objective is to create awareness on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and to encourage correct and consistent use of condoms to all sexually active people.
In Drakenstein the focus will be on youth offenders at the Hawequa Correctional Centre. Condoms will also be dispensed to truck drivers at the Huguenot Tunnel.
Organiser Susan Meyer says the key messages are: * Encourage the youth to delay sexual debut. * Reinforce the ABC prevention messages among all age groups (Abstain, Be faithful, Condomise). * Promote awareness of symptoms and facilitate access to appropriate information and prompt treatment of STI’s. * Encourage women and girls to take responsibility for their own reproductive health.
STIs increase the spread of HIV. Early treatment of STIs provides cure, prevents further infection to others and prevents complications caused by STIs. There is no cure for HIV infection.
Sister Meyer encouraged women and girls to enquire about the female condom, which is now available at clinics.
Businesses can approach her for free male and female condoms on 021-862-0106/7 ortel/fax 021-862-1260.
