Zanne at sunset

Zanne at sunset

2007-02-08

THE name Zanne Stapelberg is popping up everywhere and is well known and well loved by many Capetonians.

On Sunday around sunset the cool, green manor house gardens at Diemersfontein will be resounding with the musical tones of the opera-cabaret ‘Zanne’, featuring Zanne Stapelberg, the talented Stefan Lombard on piano and Anouk Epsli on the violin.

At 18:00 for 18:30 you will be able to meet Zanne Stapelberg - star soprano, and experience her mesmeric presence and voice, at the Diemersfontein Sunset Concert - Viognier, Violins and Good Vibrations.

Zanne is a young soprano whose unique talents have brought her critical acclaim, widespread media attention, and a devoted following.

The combination of a pure, creamy voice, with an infectious personality and powerful acting abilities, have made her one of South Africa’s best-loved young divas.

Traditional classical recitals can be intimidating for the uninitiated. Zanne presents outstanding performances of soprano arias and songs in a format which is appealing and accessible to a wider audience than a conventional recital.

The show is constructed with a cabaret-like structure, with witty linking narrations from Zanne contextualising the music, and leading old and new opera admirers through the choices of music.

The repertoire ranges from the familiar, including Carmen, Madama Butterfly and Romeo et Juliette, to exciting discoveries which will be new to most audience members, such as Astor Piazolla’s tango-opera ‘Maria de Buenos Aires’.

The show also features spine-tingling re-workings of Cole Porter and Gershwin standards.

Concert-goers will be able to savour Diemersfontein’s Carpe Diem Viognier 2005 with canapés that complement this white wine, and participants can bring their own picnics, or delicious picnics can be ordered - made up by Seasons Restaurant at Diemersfontein.

Tickets are R120 pp including wine and canapés. Book at 021-864-5050 or email fanclub@diemersfontein.co.za.
