Man to sue Council

THE treacherous roads of Paarl have claimed yet another victim.
Kyle de Villiers recently lost control of his new VW Golf while crossing the Lady Grey Street railway bridge.
Although he was driving slowly, the tyre burst when he struck a worn-out joint in the road surface.
His car then mounted the pavement, scraping along the railing of the bridge. Kyle was not injured.
Another Paarlite, Jacques Conradie (33), is suing the Municipality for his medical costs after his vehicle struck a pot-hole in Textile Street.
He was on his way to the gym in the early hours of the morning in October last year when he struck a pothole.
The vehicle spun out of control and collided with a wall 20 metres further. The brand new Kia Pica was a complete write-off. Conradie’s head was smashed hard against the instrument panel, causing severe injuries to his nose and mouth.
After many painful months of reconstructive surgery, as well as thousands of rands later, Conradie is on the path to recovery. He has however not left the incident there.
“I submitted a claim to the Drakenstein Municipality for my medical expenses, pain and suffering, as well as the damage done to the vehicle,” said Conradie.
“I was however informed by the insurance company of the Municipality that they will not settle the claim.
“I have now been forced to take further legal action against them.”
Although Kyle was not injured in the latest incident, he is also investigating possible legal steps against the Municipality for neglecting to maintain the roads of Paarl.
