TB day in Mbekweni

PROVINCE has decided to celebrate World TB Day, 24 March, in Drakenstein this year.
The programme will take place in the Mbekweni Commnity Hall from 10:00 to 13:00. The theme this year is ‘TB anywhere is TB everywhere’.
Drakenstein is one of the crisis districts in the Western Cape when it somes to TB. According to a spokesperson of the Department of Health, cases are increasing at an alarming rate. In 2004 the average per quarter was 542, last year it raised to 718.
The sub-district displayed a marked improvement in treatment outcomes. The cure rate improves from 59,6% in 2004 to 72,3% in 2005.
The event on the 24th will have two main objectives the first to reflect on the TB programme in 2006. The second is the launch of specific activity towards the business sector role-players in the area, integrating the theme of World TB Day.
