Variety at farmers' expo

THERE will be far greater international participation at this year’s 10th Wine Farmers & Fruit Growers Exhibition to be held at the Cape Town International Conference Centre from 24 to 26 July.
The German-based Intervitis Interfructa exhibition company from Stuttgart, which has been associated with the Exhibition for the past decade, is expanding its involvement with the launch of Intervitis Interfrutca Southern Africa.
Local companies and farmers will thus have the benefit of international expertise, the latest technology and know-how, as well as an opportunity for companies to participate in a growing international network.
Rocky Swartz, local director of the show, said intensive negotiations have meant that there will be a variety of new and exciting exhibits for Western Cape farmers, in what is by far the largest Agro-Industrial exhibition in the province.
Held every alternative year, it covers all aspects from cultivation techniques to harvesting and processing, filling, sealing and packaging, to sales and marketing, as well as niche areas where extra revenue opportunities can be exploited.
Among the new innovations this year is an outdoor exhibition adjacent to the CTICC, which will allow exhibitors the opportunity to promote large machinery that does not fit into an indoor facility.
“We are growing the show by ten percent this year, with 60% of exhibitors from 2005 again participating and 40 percent debuting at the show,” said Rocky Swartz.
“We are also looking to include a conference during the exhibition – providing something which is meaningful to the farming and related communities.
“Intervitis Interfrutca now operates in Germany, Austria, Chile and South Africa. Intervitis Interfrutca Germany will be holding its 2007 show in Stuttgart between 22 and 26 April.
“For a number of years they have included innovation prizes to inspire manufacturers, designers and entrepreneurs to further develop technology in the wine, fruit and fruit juice sectors.
“We intend showcasing the different winners at this year’s Cape Town exhibition to share the exciting new developments in the various sectors of these dynamic industries,” said Swartz.
