Vineyards Rugby Club set for good season
2007-03-08
DESPITE losing their first warm-up match of the season, the Vineyards Rugby Club looks set to follow on the successful path of last year.
Vineyards took on Stellenbosch Coronations last Wednesday night sporting a host of new players, including ten old boys of Paarl Boys’ High. The club also welcomed back Adlee and Fadel Moerat.
With the absence of Abbas Hendricks, Anwar Dulvie and the giant twins Ebi and Bakr Davids, the team did well to lead 7-0 at half-time after a try by wing Anwar-Shuhail Moerat and conversion by Ricky Carelse (fly-half).
Vineyards dominated all aspects of the game against a side coached by former Springbok great Dawie Snyman.
At half-time, Vineyards made nine changes as all new players were promised game time, subsequently weakening the team’s effort.
Two tries in the dying minutes secured a 15-7 victory for Coronations. On Saturday Vineyards play Strand Pioneers in Strand. The bus leaves at 12:30.
