James Stewart at Bridgehouse
2007-03-15
SOUTH AFRICAN singer/songwriter James Stewart, perhaps best known as the voice of Cape Town band The Usual, is putting together a very special show in his new home town of Franschhoek for Tuesday 20 March at 19:30 for 20:00.
Stewart moved to Franschhoek a year ago, with his wife, child and two dogs.
He now lives there on an apricot and pear farm, worries about moths, worms and harvests, but also writes music.
“I drive to studios daily where I continue to write and record music for all applications like film, TV and commercials.”
Says Stewart of his new, composite life, “I have just finished mixing a Live album, which I recorded in Camps Bay late last year.
“We flew guitarist Tom Fox (The Usual and Bright Blue), bass journey-man Yoyo Buys (The Usual and many new pasty faced English bands) and drummer Preston Heymann (Eric Clapton, Kate Bush and many others) out from the UK and New Zealand for the gig. It worked out very well.”
The Franschhoek show will be the launch of his brand new recording.
The album features loads of the old classics like Shape That I’m In and Like a Vision as well as newer favourite like Shine and Don’t Stop Turning Me On.
But the show is about more than just an album launch. It will also raise awareness of a local Franschhoek initiative called the Kusasa Project.
This project seeks to provide opportunities for primary school children to see a better tomorrow through academic support and sporting programs, enhancing English and Maths skills and offering activities outside of school which will provide an alternative to the negative influences which surround them.
Backing James on the night will be a full, new band featuring Sven Blumer on guitar, Nelson Barbosa on bass, Marc De Kock on sax and Shaun Michau on drums.
It will be very relaxed, so feel free to bring a picnic basket. A cash bar will be available on the night.
Tickets are R100. Booking essential on 072-506-6000.
