Orchestra at Boys' High

THERE will be a performance by an orchestra and massed choir at the Boys’ High School in Paarl on Saturday 24 March at 19:30. The conductor is Alexander Fokkens.
Alexander Fokkens is the conductor and instructor for the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra Youth Development Program. He grew up in Cape Town and was awarded a B.Mus in Double Bass from the University of Cape Town. He then moved to Fort Worth, Texas to do his Masters Degree.
The Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra will be joined by members of the three Western Cape Education Music Centres.
This promises to be a thrilling event. Among the orchestral works are the first movement of Beethoven’s First Symphony, Passione Amarosa for two double bass and orchestra as well as short works from composers around the world.
Choral items include The Anvil Chorus from Il Trovatore by Verdi, and Dry Your Tears Afrika from Amistad by Williams.
The event is made possible by financial sponsorship from the Arts and Culture Trust.
Proceeds will be used for music development programmes.
