All roads lead to Boland Summer Festival

All roads lead to Boland Summer Festival

2007-03-22

“I’M in my car, driving on the N1 highway towards the Huguenot tunnel. Its 35 degrees and the kids are moaning in the backseat. On my far right I see the beautiful picturesque mountains of Franschhoek - ‘what a beautiful sight’, my wife says!

“I see the Taalmonument from far and remember how we held braais in the mountain near the water fall when we were children.

“The radio is playing and as we take the Paarl/Wellington turn-off, we hear a jingle playing. The kids jump up and join in song - ‘Pollie ons gaan Paarl toe, Pollie ons gaan Paarl toe’."

Yes, you have guessed it - it’s festival time in Paarl! On 23, 24 and 25 March the Boland Summer Festival is coming to Paarl!

This year will be the 8th annual Boland Summer Festival.
It is still the largest event of its kind in the Boland.

The festival has increased in popularity over the last few years and keeps on growing stronger, thanks to the support of the festival-goers.

This is a community event and one of the building blocks of our success is that we listen to the people, stick to a winning formula and innovate where feasible and practical.

Those that frequented the festival in the past will know that it is an event that rekindles old friendships, unites families and on the odd occasion - the meeting place of many happy unions!

Over these three days, the many colours of the rainbow really come together. We are all proud to live together in the Boland and it is encouraging to see that the event is becoming more and more representative of our different cultures, races and religions!

They cater for everyone - from young to old, males and females, sporty and not so sporty. We are blessed to always have good weather and the venue makes it an ideal family outing.

It is safe and secure, the food is ‘the best’ and they have sufficient entertainment to quench the thirst of many adrenalin enthusiasts.

If action adventure is your game, then you are sure to enjoy the Bungee Rocket and Rock Climbing Wall (see programme for detailed breakdown of activities).

The organisers say they are aware of the fact that there are many evils that can lead youngsters astray.

That is why they continuously strive to provide alternatives for them at the festival.

In fact, this year the festival has gone above and beyond in catering to the needs of the youth.

For example, for the very first time they will have a Car ‘Sound-Off’ competition on Sunday 25 March. The event will be hosted by German Spec and they are looking at about 30 cars competing on the day.

Their aim is still for the Paarl tourism industry to recognise the Boland Summer Festival to be incorporated in the annual tourism social calendar.

They attract more than 30 000 people over the weekend and it would be an ideal opportunity to market our beautiful town and its people to the broader Western Cape and Boland.

The Daljosaphat Stadium will once again be home to the Boland Summer Festival. The Drakenstein Municipality has promised that they will do the necessary maintenance to the facility before the event.

The organisers thanked everyone responsible for their commitment and making the premises available. With 30 000 pairs of feet coming through the gates, the stadium is the ideal venue for an event of this nature.
