Franschhoek Autumn Classical Music
2007-03-22
MUSIC is in the air with the third Franschhoek Autumn Classical Music Festival and once again the organisers promise to bring an innovative selection of music performance to the Cape Winelands region.
The dates of the Autumn music festival have moved from April to coincide with the new international Franschhoek Literary Festival, 11 to 13 May (see www.flf.co.za).
This year’s festival features a group of dedicated classical artists who perform regularly together under the Music Revival banner. They are pianist Christopher Duigan, Federico Freschi (baritone) and Russian virtuosi Boris and Elena Kerimov (cello and violin).
Their programmes feature the violin and cello sonatas of Edvard Grieg presented with readings of Ibsen poetry, a chamber music programme of music for piano trio by Dvorak, Schumann and Piazzolla, an entertaining dinner concert featuring the combined talents of the ensemble ‘Gypsy and Tango in Vienna’, a Sunday morning piano recital featuring Beethoven’s last piano Sonata Op 111 and music by Bach, and a Mother’s Day luncheon event - Words and Music, featuring songs and narrated music performance.
Other artists include special guests Zanne Stapelberg (soprano) who with James Grace (guitar) perform a innovative exploration of Spanish musical styles.
Venues include La Motte, Le Fromagerie at La Grange and the historic NGK Franschhoek.
Booking for the church recitals is via Franschhoek Wine Valley Tourism tel 021-876-3603 from 1 April.
