Brass conference at Frank Pietersen Music Centre

THE Frank Pietersen, Beau Soleil, Hugo Lambrechts and Music Centres invite any brass students to join their annual Brass Conference.
This year’s conference will be held at the Frank Pietersen Music Centre in Paarl from 20 to 22 April.
The aim of this conference is to have brass players of all levels meet, play together in ensembles, and attend informative, short lectures.
The interaction between musicians, students and teachers is one of the main ventures of the congress, coupled by loads of fun and making beautiful music.
Special guest Nancy Jordan Fako, author of the Phillip Farkas autobiography and ex-Chicago Symphony Orchestra horn player, will present short sessions devoted to Phillip Farkas.
Students will also be able to attend lectures on music tuition at tertiary level, specifically brass tuition.
Representatives from the University of Cape Town, University of Stellenbosch as well as schools (public, music and arts and culture focus schools) and local bands will all spend the weekend in Paarl and share some vital information.
There will be mass warm-ups, where students will be taught how to warm up properly, which is vital to brass players, but so often overlooked.
Students of all levels will also be placed in ensembles which will be coached by the best brass performers and teachers in South Africa.
Participants will be treated to a concert presented by specially formed ensembles as the finale to the Saturday sessions, whilst a gala concert featuring each and every participant will close off the Congress on the Sunday afternoon at one of Paarl’s prestigious wine estates.
