Fairview shines at World Cheese Awards
2007-03-29
THE Fairview Wine and Cheese Estate has once again proved to be the top of the league when it walked off with several awards including the best South African entry for its gold medal winner Fairview Blue Rock at the 2007 World Cheese Awards in London.
This is the fifth year running that Fairview has entered and won gold. Fairview’s Roydon camembert won gold for three consecutive years (2003-2005), Fairview’s Bleu en Blanc won Gold in 2006 and now Fairview’s Blue Rock strikes Gold in 2007.
The estate also collected two further silver medals at this year’s event for its Fairview Chevin (Garlic & Herb) and Fairview Boland Blue.
The prestigious international competition saw 120 cheese specialists assemble at London’s Olympia to pass judgement on the 2007 World Cheese Awards entrants.
Judging took place on Wednesday 14 March and with nearly 2000 entries, including 50 cheeses from South Africa, 250 from the USA and hundreds more from all the major cheese-producing nations, competition was fierce.
