Cosmos soccer is king
2007-04-04
ONE of the Mbekweni soccer teams, Cosmos, had to dig deep on Sunday before they could be crowned as the champions of the Boland Castle Cup.
Cosmos beat Martel Five Star of Khayamandi from Stellenbosch 2-1 after trailing one goal to naught at half-time.
The Mbekweni-team fought back in the second half striking with two goals by the forward Luyanda “Bomber” Ndlambe to take the lead.
With this victory the Paarlites secured their place in the SAB provincial knock-out games which will take place at the University of the Western Cape-fields.
Mbekweni Sundowns' chances to remain in the Vodacom League next year was dealt a low blow last weekend when they lost 0-3 to Hanover Park Football Club in their own backyard.
The Mbekweni-team will have to win all three of their remaining games in order to stay in the league.
