Trout hatchery planned
2007-04-04
A FISH hatchery is planned in Franschhoek in a building of about 1000 square metres on Erf 2835 above Reservoir Street.
It is proposed to rear up to 48 tons of trout fingerlings per year in a contained building for onward sale to trout farmers.
Borehole water will be used for aquaponics and after removal of solids for irrigation purposes. Solids will be sold as fertiliser. An environmental impact study of the proposed Molapong Aquaculture Freshwater Finfish Hatchery will be undertaken.
