Idiots race in the street
2007-04-19
I READ with interest the letters in Paarl Post of Thursday 12 April about the noise created by idiots racing motor vehicles on the public roads!
I too am kept out of my sleep on most Sunday mornings from 02:00 until 04:00 when these “wannabees” leave the night club at a hotel in Wellington.
People scream and engines are revved to their maximum, causing them to backfire and sound like shots being fired.
Then dramatically the clutch is dropped and “wheelies” and “doughnuts”, to the glee and delight of an over inebriated audience, are carried out leaving lots of rubber on the road surface. This is contrary to the law, but where are the traffic cops? Most people who live in Wellington know that traffic offences can be committed by whoever, whenever as we never see traffic officers in Wellington, especially after normal office hours.
Do they not ever do any law enforcement work? We never see them in Wellington. I do not know about Paarl!
I would suggest that the Municipal Authorities take cognisance of what is actually taking place in their area and do something constructive, like getting traffic personnel to do the job - they are using taxpayers money to pay wages, to stem the tide of unlawful happenings.
Tthat will eventually lead to more crime and criminals - something that we definitely do not need!
These offenders will not be interested in doing their “sport” in a regulated manner, because they just want the attention, so building a track will serve no real purpose.
Empty barrels make the most noise.
