Darts find their mark
2005-05-19
AFTER a successful placard demonstration against social evils that they held in Paarl on Saturday, the junior boys and girls of the Boland Darts Board of Control finished the day with a competition.
The 82 youngsters gave an excellent display of their dart throwing talent.
In the girls’ A section it was the confidence and accuracy of Alicia Daniels (Paulus Joubert) which secured her the singles title, beating Ilse Hendricks (New Orleans) in the final.
In the B section it was an all Swartland affair. Newcomer Angeline van Staden (Steynville, Piketberg) was too strong for Theonay Adams of Schoonspruit (Malmesbury) beating her 2-1.
The boys’ event saw two hotly contested semi-finals in the A section between the three junior Protea players Mynard Brits, Ruan Hanekom (both of Tygerberg), Hadley Isaacs (Swartland) and Thurlough Lottering (Klein Nederburg Secondary School).
In the one semi-final Brits was too strong for Hanekom, with Lottering coming out on top against Isaacs.
In the final Lottering went into top gear beating Brits in a tough match. In the B section it was the young Nathan Plaatjies (Helderberg) who showed true talent in beating Jowayne Simons (North Boland) in a spectacular final.
On the senior front it was the men of Boland Districts Darts, now known as the Drakenstein Darts Association, who dominated. In the A section they beat all their counterparts.
Although they were beaten by Helderberg in the B section they still performed well enough in their other games to be victorious in this section as well.
After taking a beating from Tygerberg and North Boland, the women of Boland ended in the third position.
A total of 83 180’s was achieved during the competition, nine of them belonging to Wynand Havenga, Protea player of Tygerberg.
Christie Goff also of Tygerberg threw the highest closing score of 154. The next games in the men’s C section and women’s B section will be held on 4 June at the Ambagsvallei Sports Complex.
