Team Champs finish second

THE fourth leg of the Rat Race Media/Red Square regional competition for rubberducks in the P750 group recently took place at the Kwaggaskloof Ski Club on the Theewaterskloof Dam near Villiersdorp.
With the competition being as tough as it is and the season slowly coming to an end, the teams were slightly nervous especially with the Western Province trials in mind for later this year.
The first day, with perfect weather conditions, was set aside for circuit racing consisting of two qualifying heats and a final.
Local racers Steyn Basson and Malan Botha (Team Champs, Wellington) did extremely well in the P750 Blueprint Class with a second place after day one.
Francois Heynes and Theo Rischbieter (GM Thorp/RTS Transport, Paarl) as well as Jacques Groenewald and Frans Loubscher (Zing/Terrason, Wllington) competed in the P750 Standard Class, ending the first day on 7th and 5th place respectively.
On the final day racers had to complete a longhaul event over 144km.
Once again the conditions were ideal with everything running smoothly for the Paarl and Wellington boys.
Basson and Botha held on to their position and finished second overall.
At the end of the final round Heynes and Rischbieter moved up one spot to finish in 4th place.
Groenewald and Loubser could not improve their position and remained in 7th place after the final round.
After the event Groenewald said they were pleased with their results. “We are making steady progress. The conditions were near perfect and we enjoyed the well-organised event.”
The next race wil take place in Strand, but a date for this event has not been established yet.
