THE spirit of the 2007 SA Cheese festival which was held at Bien Donné over the past weekend, could not be dampened, even by the first signs of a typical Cape winter an d puddles galore.

More than 27 000 braved the cold, wet weather and descended upon the festival which was held over four days.

On Saturday and Sunday, festival-goers who had not yet purchased their tickets on-line, had to be turned away as all tickets had sold out.

This year’s festival was also the biggest to date, with 175 exhibitors from across the country treating the public to grand fare of more than 400 cheeses, wines, olives, freshly baked breads and even heavenly chocolates.

Amongst the new exhibitors were international traders who boasted imported French produce.

Local cheesery, Fairview, walked away with the accolades for the exhibitor with the most impressive exibition, while the award for the best stand at the Gourmet Lane went to local restaurant, Marc’s Mediterranean Cuisine.

“We support the Cheese Festival each year, because it is an ideal platform to meet our consumers face-
to-face and tell them more about our products,” said marketing manager of Fairview Cheese, Chris Davis.

Cheese lovers who missed this year’s festival can diarise 25 to 28 April 2008 when the next Cheese Festival will be held at Bien Donné.
