Local schools miss sevens honours

THE u.19A sevens rugby team of Wesbank Secondary School (Malmesbury) recently won a local schools tournament hosted by Klein Nederburg Secondary School.
Eight schools went head to head in a stunning display of running rugby in this shortened version of the game.
The teams each played three games which were followed by a round of play-offs for positions in the plate and cup finals.
The games were played at a fast pace with 136 points (22 tries) scored in the first round alone and 676 points accumulated throughout the whole tournament.
In the first play-off Paulus Joubert ended Charleston Hill's campaign for victory with a 40-5 victory while Noorder-Paarl came out on top with a 21-12 win over Groendal.
Host team Klein Nederburg narrowly went down 17-12 to New Orleans while Wesbank also escaped with a close 24-19 victory over Kylemore.
Noorder-Paarl came out the strongest in the entertaining plate final against Paulus Joubert. They won 32-19.
The highlight of the tournament was the high-scoring cup final between Wesbank and New Orleans.
Although New Orleans put up an admirable fight, Wesbank outclassed them with their skills, winning the game 47-26.
