2007-05-03
LANDSKROON, the home of South Africa’s most celebrated Ports, has released its new vintage, the bold yet refined 2002 Landskroon Port.
Crafted under the watchful eye of Cellarmaster Paul de Villiers, whose 1997 Port earned him the coveted title of Diners Club South African Winemaker of the Year in 2000, the new Landskroon 2002 Port is powerful yet elegant in character.
This newcomer has an impressive lineage of acclaimed Ports that have won practically every major award for Port including Veritas Double Gold (1999 & 2004), SAA Port Trophy (2002 & 2005), 2002 Air France Classic Wine Trophy and 2001 SA Young Wine Champion over the years.
Paul and Hugo de Villiers pride themselves in consistently producing Ports of exceptional quality which is supported by the 4-star John Platter rating achieved with every vintage.
The 2002 vintage is a blend of the classic Port varietals, Tinta Barocca (6%), Tinta Roriz (22%), Souzao (22%) and Touriga Nacional (50%) all harvested from 11 – 16 year old vines on Landskroon estate.
Matured for 45 months in old oak barrels, this voluptuous Port teems with concentrated berry flavours. It has a beautiful aroma of spicy black prunes and tobacco with a smooth but lively palate ending in an attractive dry finish.
This Port will improve in the bottle for up to 10 years and can be enjoyed on its own or with matured cheese and fresh nuts after dinner. Landskroon’s prowess in fortified wines in not restricted to Port. The estate is also famous for its unique Morio Muscat Jerepico, the only South African Jerepico made of Morio Muscat grapes, a cross between Silvaner and Pinot blanc.
