Illegal racing can be stopped

Illegal racing can be stopped

2007-05-03

ILLEGAL motor racing is not only a problem in Paarl. It happens all over SA.

I stay in PE, and here we had the same problem.

Although the racing was done in a secluded area where no other cars drove, it was still illegal and not controlled.

The relevant parties came together and the problem is solved now. All racing clubs came together and with the inputs of the local municipality they set aside a area to race every second Thursday, with cover charge of R30 per car entering.

Anyone can race - if you think your car has what it takes - and every event is hosted by a different club, with the money going to the racing club and paying for the facility (water, lights).

On Easter weekend alone over 4000 cars entered the gates.
When all parties concerned can come together and achieve a solution to all, you might just have a new tourist attraction in Paarl, with plenty business and work opportunities.
