Racing problem can be solved

Racing problem can be solved

2007-05-03

RECKLESS driving, speeding, driving under influence of toxic substances on public roads, obstructing traffic, illegal parking on public roads, consuming alcohol in public places, disturbance of the peace, public gathering on official public roads without permission from the authorities prior to the gathering, are all offences punishable by law. Some are even criminal offences.

All items mentioned above form part of the road racing menace.
If the authorities opt to do nothing about this lawless terror of noise, speed and danger to the public in general, technically speaking the authorities forfeit all rights to issue penalties to all other road users for similar or any other offences as required by law.

If racing on public roads is allowed by the authorities, they should prepare themselves for the undoing of all penalties issued in the past and presently in process, as well as dropping all efforts to enforce law and order in the future.

Either law and order applies to all, or accept a society with a “free for all” condition, which I am sure will get us into deep trouble and may in the end not even be appreciated by the illegal racing participants.
I am not completely without understanding for the racers problem - however, the solution is definitely not the use of public roads.

The participants and followers of street racing apparently spend vast amounts of cash to modify their cars both in performance and in noise level. They should theréfore have the funds to join racing clubs.

Fact is, you should be penalised on the same basis as a person accepting/buying stolen goods who would be penalised by the law.
Maybe you racers should take your own initiative and club together all your free cash for the purchase of a large enough farm for your much treasured passion!

Tourists known to me from Germany were woken on three nights by the intolerable noises created by racing and rubber burning.
Make no mistake, they will have a lot of reporting to do back in Germany about the conditions on our roads. I do not think we will see them in 2010!

I hope the racers will come to their senses. Keep our vehicles roadworthy and our roads safe for everybody.
