Noble status for Nederburg

Noble status for Nederburg

2007-05-31

THE 2006 vintage of Nederburg’s legendary Noble Late Harvest has just won a gold medal at the International WINE Challenge.

It was announced at the London International Wine & Spirits Fair, one of the beverage industry’s most important showcases and also the world’s largest blind tasting event.

This is the third vintage in succession to receive international acclaim. The 2005 vintage was judged a trophy winner, as the best wine made from noble late harvest grapes on the 2006 International Wine & Spirit Competition, also in London.

The 2004 vintage was South Africa’s only trophy winner on the 2005 Tri-Nations Wine Challenge, in which a spectrum of top rated local wines were evaluated against those from Australia and New Zealand.

A blend of Chenin Blanc, Rhine Riesling and Muscat de Frontignan, the 2006 vintage is an elegant wine, says winemaker Tariro Masayiti, with a rose petal perfume lent by the Muscat. It’s a delicious wine that can be served with dessert, cheeses or patés.”
The wine retails for around R51 for a 375ml bottle.

Two other Nederburg wines received silver medals on the International WINE Challenge. Both sold exclusively on the Nederburg Auction, they are also noble late harvest wines, the 2003 Eminence and the 2003 Edelkeur and will come under the hammer this year.

The 2007 Nederburg Auction takes place on September 28 and 29.
