Tribute turned to gold
2007-05-31
WHEN Mark Lindhorst decided to honour his late father by naming a wine after him, he never thought it was going to be an international Gold Medal winner.
It was actually something quite personal. Max’s Tribute is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, Max’s favourite red varietals.
Lindhorst Wines entered the wine in the Swiss International Airlines Awards and the day before the awards ceremony they were told they had better be there with a case of Max’s Tribute for the crowd to taste!
The organisers were tight-lipped about what had been won but the message was clear. The panel of international judges awarded Lindhorst Max’s Tribute 2004 a Gold Medal.
Mark Lindhorst bought a farm outside Paarl in 1996 and began replanting soon thereafter with the help of a viticultural consultant.
A derelict wine cellar was cleared out and refitted and with close supervision from a wine making consultant, the first Lindhorst wines were produced in 2002.
These were released and the tasting facility opened to the public in 2004. The wines are sold directly from the farm.
Says Mark “My father gave me the opportunities in life and the encouragement to establish Lindhorst Wines. He would have enjoyed drinking a few glasses of his Tribute and been so proud!”
