Fun and games with finalists

SOME of the Miss Winelands finalists joined in with the Play Programme run at the Athlone House of Strength last week.
They brought gifts, eats and sweets for the children, mothers and volunteers involved in a project to increase the bond between mothers and their children.
Wendy and Saska, two social work students from the Netherlands, started their final placement at Ahos in April. They spend one afternoon a week training 8 volunteers in Play Therapy and then another afternoon with a group of about 30 moms and children practising the activities planned.
Through guided and focussed play, mothers and children are connecting with each other in a new and fun way.
Laughter, dance, fun, games, music and quality time together go a long way in healing a bond that may have been damaged through abuse or dysfunctional family circumstances.
The Miss Winelands finalists were very busy raising funds in aid of the work of the Athlone House of Strength for abused women and their children.
