A PERCUSSION concert with a difference will be held in the auditorium of the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre in Parow on Saturday at 19:00.

The renowned soprano Magdalene Minnaar, accompanied by a marimba and vibraphone, is going to sing Ave Maria by Bach.
Cecilia Wolmarans is also combining her voice with Ilse Minnie on the marimba in one of Cecilia’s own compositions.

Ilse Minnie, overall winner of competitions such as the ATKV Prelude Competition is going to perform a few solo marimba works by composers such as Keiko Abe and Ney Rosauro.

Other artists that will be heard are Cherilee Adams and Dylan Tabisher playing works of Vivaldi. Cherilee and Dylan, both category winners of the ABSA Youth Music Competition, were chosen to play in an international orchestra in England for the opera “Death in Venice” by Benjamin Britten.

They left South Africa on 27 May and returned yesterday.
Well-known percussionist Frank Mallows is going to perform with the Marimba Quartet called The Floppy Hats Ragtime Ensemble.

The US Percussion Ensemble, also category winners of several competitions, will perform three works of which one will be Summer from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

Tickets at R30 (scholars R15) will be sold at the door or bookings can be made at 021-939-9105 (10:00 - 18:00).
