Art of the sneeze
2007-06-21
A NEW video installation at Iziko SA Museum in Cape Town, “The Sneeze 80 x 80”, is not to be sniffed at.
From Tuesday until 28 October, the Iziko South African National Gallery will be showing the 80-second video installations by 80 artists that was instigated by the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004.
The grouping of international artists present videos that together produce one complete work, a celebration of image diversity and unknown connections.
Conceived and produced by the artists Peter Lloyd Lewis (UK) and Natasha Makowski (USA), ‘The Sneeze 80 x 80’ applies a new equation to art synthesis.
Artist collaboration on this project pays homage to Thomas Edison’s innovative kinograph film of a sneeze, a random and connective act.
Lewis will be discussing ‘The Sneeze 80 x 80’ at the Gallery at 13:00 on the opening day (Tuesday 26 June). Everyone is welcome.
The Gallery is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, except Mondays.
