Exciting new Concert Series

2007-06-21

APPEARING in the new Cape Town Concert Series season, which runs from July 29 to November 17 on Saturday evenings at the Baxter, are a mix of exciting performers appearing in solo, duo, trio and quartet.

The season includes a performance by the Russian pianist Margarita Shevchenko who made a huge impact on Cape Town audiences when she performed here a number of years ago.

Czech pianist Jitka Cechova, who also enjoyed an immense success a few years ago has also been reinvited, this time with her cello duo partner, Jan Palenicek.

One of the leading cello/piano duos before the public today, Cechova and Palenicek are also members of the famed Smetana Trio whose latest CD has just been voted Best Chamber Music CD of 2006 by BBC Music Magazine.

Included in the line-up of concerts in this season are the Ensemble Hans Gál (violin, clarinet & piano) and Schubert Ensemble (a piano quartet, as the bass player of the quintet is not touring with the group on this occasion).

The Ensemble Hans Gál will perform on Sunday, July 29 at 17:00.
The season comes to an end on November 17 with a performance by the Russian-born American violinist Philippe Quint and who will be performing in duo with the distinguished South African pianist, Francois du Toit.

Quint is judged a new charismatic presence on the international concert stage and his debut tour of South Africa is eagerly anticipated.

Subscriptions are currently on sale and the booking period closes on 29 June. Anyone interested in becoming a Concert Series subscriber should contact the CTCS Office on 021-439 7663 or e-mail ctconcerts@iafrica.com.

Single ticket sales commence at Computicket outlets on 16 July, and details of the next season can be had by visiting www.ctconcerts.co.za.
