THE World Youth Choir will perform at the Endler Hall in Stellenbosch on 20 July at 20:00. Bookings for this concert can be made by calling 021-808-2345.

The choir will also be performing on Thursday 19 July at 19:30 in the St George’s Cathedral. Bookings for this concert can be made through Artscape Dial-a-Seat on 021-421-7695 or at Computicket.

Since 1989 the Main Session has been held in a different country every year, and the Choir is a UNESCO Ambassador of Goodwill.
The repertoire spans a wide range of genres and will cater to all musical tastes.

The Choir is under the patronage of the International Federation for Choral Music, Jeunesses Musicales International and Europa Cantat, and is having their annual Main Session in South Africa, the host country for this year.

This is the first time the session is being held in Africa and from 9 to 30 July the choir will give various concerts around the country.
Members of the World Youth Choir have to undergo stringent auditions, which are held annually all over the world, after which an international panel of choral experts select the choir members and designate two conductors of world standing.

In this way a unique and truly international choir is created, which is a very special assembly of cultures and musical talent. The conductors for this year are Sidumo Jacobs of South Africa and Peter Dijkstra from the Netherlands.

The choir is made up of 78 singers, with members ranging from 17 to 26 years of age. In total 32 countries are represented, and South Africa has 7 members in the Choir.
