Road closures for cycling outside Paarl

Road closures for cycling outside Paarl

2007-06-28

THIS week Cape Town welcomed Pat McQuaid, the President of the International Cycling Union (UCI), ahead of the start of the UCI B World Championships.

After 18 months of preparation, cyclists and visitors from 61 countries will compete in the most prestigious cycling event to be held in Africa and a qualifier for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Paarl and Wellington residents can see some of these elite cyclists in action today and tomorrow on the R45 (Paarl/Malmesbury road) during the time trials.

We would like to warn that there will be some road closures that will affect tomorrow - people being affected are those using the R45 and R44 towards Malmesbury and Wellington.

It is necessary to close the entire route from 9am to 4pm on the R45 and Lady Loch Road with two lanes on the R44 affected between Paardenberg and the R45 for warm-ups.

Alternative routes have been identified by the local authorities.
We would like to thank the people of Wellington, in advance, for their co-operation.

This event is enjoying international coverage and is a wonderful opportunity for the town to show its capabilities.
