Rain good news for paddlers
2007-07-05
THE Isuzu Berg River Canoe Marathon starts next Wednesday at the Market Street bridge in Paarl (09:30).
With the heavy cold fronts of the past few weeks, water levels are on the rise, promising an action-packed event which ends at Velddrif on 14 July.
This legendary race is in its 45th year and extends over a distance of approximately 240km.
The overnight stop on day two this year will be at Bridgetown.
Although it shortens the second leg of the race to 45km, the third session will now be 75km starting with a flatwater sprint across the Misverstand Dam.
The marathon will also have a time trial in Paarl for elite paddlers on Tuesday.
