THE students worst affected by the teachers’ strike, those in Mbekweni where no mid-year examinations were written, will be assisted during the third term, said regional education centre spokesman Abré Arendse yesterday.
“Extra classes for those students will commence as soon as schools open after the holiday. A Spring School has also been organised for Desmond Tutu for the September vacation.”
Grade 10 to 12 in Mbekweni are to write their papers shortly after the start of next term, completing the examination by 8 August.
“We have already met with school principals to discuss additional tuition for senior students at all the schools," Arense said.
For the rest of the year, the Department of Education has indicated that intensive teaching and learning for all grades must continue until at least mid-November.
The Department website contains examination papers, answers as well as other relevant information to support learners (visit http://wced. wcape.gov.za).
Also listen to the radio stations Umhlobo Wenene (Wednesdays at 20:00); Radio Sonder Grense from Monday to 2 August every weekday, at 19:00; and Radio Good Hope every Thursday to 2 August at 19:00 for assistance.
In addition, daily lessons for Grade 11 and 12 can be viewed on SABC1 every weekday from 10:00 to 12:00 as well as from 06:00 to 07:00 on weekends.
