Musical brilliance by formidable team
2007-07-19
ONE of South Africa’s foremost cellists, Peter Martens, will be performing with the internationally renowned double bassist, Leon Bosch, on Saturday 28 July at 20:00 in the Endler Hall.
The evening’s programme will comprise of inter alia Barriere's Sonata ŕ deux, Rossini's Duetto for Cello and Double bass, Stephenson's Sonatina for Cello and Double bass, Bach’s Suite no 1 for unaccompanied cello in G major, BWV 1007, as well as Theme and Variations of Pleyel.
“Bass-ically Brilliant” was formed in 2003 by two of South Africa’s most versatile and exciting string players.
Although Leon Bosch had left South Africa early in his career and had established himself as a musician of international repute in the United Kingdom, the merge with Peter Martens came naturally.
Leon and Peter share a passion in sincere and creative music making and enjoy pushing the boundaries of their respective instruments.
The virtuosity of their performances is truly amazing. Concerts are always engaging with light hearted explanations about composers or works in between the music.
Tickets cost R50 (R30 for pensioners and R20 for students) can be pre-booked at the Conservatorium Reception Desk (Neethling Street entrance) from Monday 9 July.
Advanced telephonic bookings can be made by calling 021-808 2345.
