Exporters to compete
2007-07-26
APE exporters have just two weeks in which to enter the annual Exporter of the Year competition which is run by the Cape Town Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry and sponsored by ABSA.
Janine Myburgh, President of the Chamber, said the aim of the competition was to promote exports and to recognise the achievements of local exporters who often succeeded in the face of tough global competition.
During the past year the export of commodities and raw materials have brought in most of the foreign exchange but smaller, innovative companies have continued to impress and have scooped the top prize a number of times in the 16 years of the competition.
Myburgh said one of the most exciting things about the competition was the way it seemed to bring out the best in local companies. Manufacturing industries also create the most jobs and opportunities for the skilled craftsmen of the Cape.
The closing date for entries is July 31 and the winners will be announced at the Exporter of the Year Awards Dinner on October 17.
The main award, the ABSA trophy, will go to the company that meets the judge’s criteria for commitment to exporting. All exporters, both large and small stand an equal chance of winning this prestigious award.
