Bursaries for students
2007-08-02
THE Mayor of the Cape Winelands District Municipality, Clarence Johnson, officially awarded 57 student bursaries to applicants on a formal ceremony on Wednesday 11 July.
The awarding of bursaries to selected students from the Cape Winelands has been given to a large number of students since the Council started the mayoral bursary fund in 2002.
Students are deemed to qualify when they apply or study in a recognised tertiary institution and the courses they will study are directly linked to operational activities of Cape Winelands District Municipality, especially those that are determined by the Municipality’s needs and IDP.
The bursary prioritises students who are its current study aid holders, and must still complete their studies.
Bursaries are given to local students with scarce and critical skills (especially in the local government sector), financially needy students, preferably within the area of Cape Winelands District Municipality, and taking employment equity of the district is taken into consideration.
Students that have been targeted include Financial Management, Food Science, Agriculture, Civil Engineering, Accounting , Tourism and so forth.
Students from the Cape Winelands District who wish to apply can start calling the Human Resources Department around September to hear about the dates on which they can collect the prescribed application form.
