Wine winners announced at Shiraz Festival

THE Paarl Shiraz Festival will be held at Nederburg Wine Estate, Paarl, on 18 and 19 August, where the top Shiraz and Chenin Blanc wines from the area will be announced.
Wine producers will participate in the much-anticipated and colourful procession where vine cuttings and each producer’s newest Shiraz wine are ceremoniously handed over to the guest of honour.
Well-known opera star Zanne Stapelberg, Tammy-Anne Fortuin and celeb chef Francois Ferreira will do the honours this year by welcoming each wine producer and receiving their new Shiraz wines.
Favourites of the festival will include a live performance by renowned musicians DNA Strings (on both the Saturday and Sunday), interactive cooking demonstrations and wine pairing by Ferreira, live pottery demonstrations as well as fine arts demonstrations by artist Michael Tietz.
The finalists in the Shiraz competition are Landskroon, Glen Carlou, Vondeling, Nederburg, Boland, Backsberg, Coleraine, Fairview, Perdeberg and Under Oaks. The finalists for top Chenin Blanc are KWV, Simonsvlei, Perdeberg (two finalists), Backsberg and Domaine Brahms.
