Free course for welfare organisations
2007-08-02
THE Community Chest has invited all local welfare organisations - including educare and crèches - operating in the social services and development sector, to make use of their acclaimed free training opportunities.
Courses scheduled for September include governance, management, linking with resources, basic bookkeeping, as well as the completion of Community Chest grant application forms.
Training takes place in Paarl from 19 to 20 September.
The development of the Enhancement of Capacity programme was a strategic decision on the part of the Community Chest to become more involved where organisations cannot afford training because of their inability to meet application criteria.
The organisation continues to broaden its scope by reaching out to more organisations, primarily equipping them with skills in financial and business management.
According to information on the Community Chest’s website, many community-based organisations providing essential services at a grassroots level, struggle to survive.
Many of these organisations are not equipped with the necessary information and skills needed to successfully manage their operations and access funds.
Financial accountability and sound business management practices are particularly lacking.
Thus far, funding by the Community Chest has empowered 185 community-based organisations to access financial resources on a regular basis.
Almost 165 of these have received funding for more than two years and 45 are into their fifth year of support.
To attend the free training sessions, call 021-424-3344.
