THE SA Wine Industry Directory (Sawid) is now firmly established as the industry’s information bible, having been honed over nine editions into its most comprehensive form to date.
This 600-page volume of interesting facts and figures comprehensively covers every aspect of the industry from suppliers, through to producers and industry organisations, while providing wide-ranging general information about the South African wine business.
Editor Romi Boom, who has done research and compiled the directory for the past six years, said the increase in the number of new wineries and wine companies over the past decade has been unbelievable. This, together with an explosion of brands or labels, has been unprecedented.
“We have listed more than 1 000 wineries if one includes those which are not yet on the market. The producer, winemaker and viticulturist sections now comprise 236 pages in the directory.
“In this regard we pro-actively looked at new entrants in particular, working closely with both VinPro and SAWIS to identify them,” said Boom.
The price of the directory is R165 (with postage R180) from Horizon Library Services, tel (021) 707-5707, or bookmark@bookpro.co.za.
