Cars stolen at interschools
2007-08-08
ALTHOUGH local businesses in Paarl, such as restaurants and guest-houses, are laughing all the way to the bank after another bumper Interschools weekend, two motorists have been left without their vehicles.
Two bakkies, a Nissan and a Toyota, were stolen between 18:00 and 19:00 on Wednesday evening outside the Faure Street stadium while the primary schools rugby matches were being contested.
No windows were broken and it is suspected that master keys were used to steal the vehicles.
A spokesperson for the police said that they regret these two incidents, but he added that due to constant visible policeing on Friday and Saturday, no crimes were reported in the area where thousands of people gathered for Interschools.
“Not only did we keep an eye on the venues where the sporting events were taking place, but we also monitored the many drinking places in Paarl.
“There were no problems and we wish to thank the public for their co-operation.”
