Brothers enjoy opera

Brothers enjoy opera

2007-08-08

THE Bala brothers (Zwai, Loyiso and Phelo) could be one of the hits of the Cultivaria Festival in Paarl at the end of September.

The brothers all attended the Drakensberg Boys' Choir School in KwaZulu-Natal.

They have appeared on television’s Strictly Come Dancing show and at the annual Starlight Classics. The trio is enjoying success with their opera-crossover album.

Zwai Bala first made waves in the music industry as part of TKZee.
Widely considered a musical prodigy when he became the first ever black member of the Music in Edinburgh, Scotland, the classically trained Zwai mixed his talents with the street-hardened rapping skills of Tokollo (TK) and Kabelo (Bouga). TKZee forged a totally unique and addictively fresh music style.

The Bala Brothers’ debut album B3 was released in 2006 and featured guest artists such as Judith Sephuma, Angela Kerrison and Aka.

They also perform an incredible cover of Josh Groban’s You Raise Me Up as well as their version of the South African National Anthem, which happens to be the only full recorded version available.

They will perform their opera cross-over and other songs in the Paarl Town Hall on 22 September at 13:00, and will also feature in the big show Paarl Pops which closes the festival on 24 September at 16:30 in the Strauss Hall.
