Spot the cleanest town
2007-08-08
TO create awareness and encourage communities to enhance their involvement in integrated waste management practices in their municipalities and fostering in them the spark to regain pride in their towns, the Cleanest Town Competition (CTC) was initiated in 2001 by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism.
This year the competition will run until November.
Municipalities will be required to present their environmental support and community programmes, such as recycling and environmental, which a panel will evaluate.
The panel, who physically evaluate municipalities by visiting towns in the local municipality and evaluating them according to set criteria.
The two aspects that will be evaluated are physical condition and general cleanliness (40%) and municipal waste management initiatives and support systems (60%).
