Advisory service for farmers forges ahead
2007-08-23
VINPRO, the service organisation for South African wine producers, is giving new momentum to its Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) Advisory Service in the form of a financial commitment and the addition of specialists in this field.
VinPro announced a commitment of R10 million over the next ten years for the operation of the BEE Advisory Service to give momentum to the empowerment process at farm level.
This service has since February 2006 provided strategic guidance and advice to upcoming and established wine producers regarding the sustainable implementation of BEE and land reform projects.
To guide wine producers in this critical process, VinPro has appointed Peet Visser, a reputable agricultural development co-ordinator from Paarl as manager of the VinPro BEE Advisory Service.
He played a dynamic role in the upliftment of agricultural communities as Project Co-ordinator: Agriculture at Casidra (formerly Lanok), the implementing agency for the Western Cape Provincial Department’s rural development programmes.
VinPro adds to this the valuable business and empowerment expertise of Conrad Sidego, well-known Capetonian media personality, who was recently appointed to the VinPro Board of Directors.
Sidego held a senior position at Media24, is chairman of the Foundation for Empowerment through Afrikaans (FEA) and is a trustee member of the University of Stellenbosch Trust.
VinPro has been making a vital contribution to BEE since 2003, which includes the formulation of a “White Paper” with financing models for the implementation of the upcoming BEE Wine Charter.
