Two canoeists feature in SA team

TWO local paddlers are included in the Canoeing South Africa team that will travel to Senegal for the African Championships in St Louis from 22 to 24 July.
Paul Lombard (Paarl Canoe Club) and Milissa Moss (La Rochelle) will represent their country in the senior men and u.16 women categories respectively.
The squad of seven male and six female athletes will endeavour to defend the continental title that South Africa has held since the inception of the continental championships in 2001.
The team will field entrants in the senior, u.18 and u.16 categories, as well as one athlete in the C1 class for the first time.
The team includes several athletes who were members of previous victorious African Championship squads, such as Lombard and Claire Langenhoven.
Lombard is also one of three paddlers in the squad that represented South Africa at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney in January.
The team was selected from a series of trials that included the SA national sprints as well as the SA schools sprints.
Moss was part of the u.16 girls K2 team who was victorious in the 3000m, 1000m and 500m events at the recent SA School Sprint Championships. She also won the 200m K1 event and came second in the Victrix Ludorum event.
The team is (seniors) Chris Majola, Paul Lombard, Bridgette Hartley, Claire Langenhoven and Michelle Eder (reserve), (u.18’s) Nkosi Mzolo, Sphamandla Sibisi, Camilla Jones, Kayleigh Champion, Niki Fischer (reserve), (u.16’s) Phinias Zulu, Tom Ngcobo, Nombuso Mzolo, Milly Moss, and Roxy Green (reserve), (C1) Thomas Ngidi.
