Dream bag to the rescue

Dream bag to the rescue

IF you as student or learner come back from school, throw your heavy schoolbag on the floor with a sigh of relief and sag onto the nearest bed to give an aching back a rest, then most probably you’ll jump for joy if you can lay your fingers on a dream bag that massages your back while carrying your heavy load of books or whatever on your back!

This is what two learners, Ayesha Latief and Thaakierah Booysen at Al Azhar Institute in Paarl were thinking about, when they invented a dream bag that does precisely that!

“Says Ayesha: “We wanted to think of something extraordinary for our Science and Maths project, and entered this project for the semi-finals of the Science and Maths Expo tomorrow in Stellenbosch.”

Excited about the bag, Thaakierah says that their dream bag is not specifically for students, but also for people hiking or going to a gym or workers or anyone carrying a load.

“It’s meant for anyone at any age going anywhere."

Their Science and Maths teacher, Nilo Moralis said the girls did all the work on the bag themselves.

The Dream Bag looks like any ordinary bag found in any retail shop, but that’s where the similarity ends.

When you strap it onto your back, flick on the switch of the remote that fits in one of the side pockets, you’ll get a strong massaging sensation.

It feels ticklish at first and you’re acutely aware of the sensation, but as it gets to work after a while it gets rather comfortable.

The massaging machine’s power source is a rechargable 12volt battery small enough that it fits into the bag.

The drawback is that it needs to be recharged overnight if you’ve used the invention extensively during the day.

With the help of science teacher Ismael Gaidien, the girls are already in the process of registering and patenting their product.

Perhaps soon, if you have about R700 lying around and want to spoil yourself or the kids by trying out this new gadget for your aching back, you can hop along to the shops to get your own dream bag.
