AT the Science, Maths and Technology Expo held in Stellenbosch last week, one silver and one bronze medal were awarded to participating secondary schools in the valley with three bronze medals going to primary schools.
Klein Nederburg Secondary scored one medal when Craig Albertus (Grade 10) received a silver medal for his project on cancer treatment.
New Orleans Secondary Grade 8-learners Charné Sheldon and Mylcka Solomons received a bronze medal for their project on ageing. Caron Minnaar and Hybré Marinus in Grade 7 at Mary Help of Christians Primary received a bronze medal with their project on Nuclear Power for Electricity, while William Lloyd Primary was also in the running with Grade 7 learners Tamaryn Green and Azraa Moerat receiving bronze for their project on recycling - a must for the future.
Said Denise Ontong, co-ordinator of the Expo in the Winelands area, “Although no-one from our area succeeded in going to the nationals in Pretoria later this month, our schools’ 88 learners who participated in the semi-finals fared very well.
