ANOTHER burglary at Paarl Mall has once again forced management to review their security status.

Ten men escaped from the Mall on Thursday evening with valuables worth thousands of rands after robbing Woolworths and Galaxy Jewellers.

Shortly after 21:00 two men entered the Mall at the Woolworths entrance and after making sure that the area was deserted, they alerted the rest of their party.

The men then forced open the entrance to Woolworths and headed directly for the cellphone stand.

Here they stole dummy cellphones as well as phones which were under the counter waiting to be repaired.

According to management, this operation barely took 60 seconds.

The men then proceeded to Galaxy which is opposite Woolworths, and here they smashed two windows, clearing the display area of approximately R50 000 worth of jewellery. They escaped in a vehicle which was parked outside.

The entire incident took no more than four minutes.

Lisa de Boer, Mall manager, said that they are conducting a full investigation into the incident to establish how such burglaries can be prevented in the future.

“The closing times of the centre will now be re-evaluated with immediate effect.

We will be closing the Pick ’n Pay and Woolworths entrances at 20:00, with only the food court entrance open to the public and tenants.

“This will ensure that our security is concentrated on one area.”

Because the perpetrators were caught on security cameras, the police are following strong leads.
