Festival artist on fire

THE works of festival artist Kevin Brand, titled “Set the World on Fire”, will be exhibited at the KWV Emporium in Kohler Street, Paarl South, during the Cultivaria Festival from 21 September.
“Set the World on Fire” is a two dimensional body of work that acknowledges drawing as muse and as a worthy subject.
“Bodies of work that explored a perceived beauty in a subject matter, seemingly banal and unworthy (egg-boxes, sponges, bars of soap), were cast directly into bronze,” Brand said.
“The considered imagery is treated in a highly stylised manner, where the convention of a false perspectival device is employed to portray archetypal concepts of subjects, be they buildings, technical illustrations or containers.”
Of interest are the different scales, media and processes used.
