Dagga found at Boys' High
2007-09-13
A STUDENT was caught red-handed on the school grounds of Paarl Boys’ High School in possession of dagga.
On Friday the school authorities received anonymous information that one of their learners was in possession of this drug.
The police were alerted and the sixteen-year-old grade 10 learner from Berg-en-Dal in Wellington was summoned.
He was searched and a small amount of dagga was found hidden in his school blazer.
The learner was arrested, then released into the custody of his mother. The case will now be handed over to the prosecutor who will decide the youth’s fate.
The acting principal of Paarl Boys’ High, James Genis, confirmed the incident.
“We realise that the youth of today are often exposed to drugs and we are currently addressing this with great concern.
“We feel that we do not have a problem with drugs on our premises, but if this does arise, we will follow the legal procedures as prescribed by the Department of Education and the police.”
He said that once the police had concluded their investigation into this matter, the school governing body would follow their own disciplinary procedures.
